It’s Opening Day at the Olympics, with multiple Indiana-based participants, in a variety of sports.  One of the most prominent that WRBI’s recently spoken with is Mason Parris, the University of Michigan wrestler from Lawrenceburg.  He recently appeared on “Overtime” with Terrance Arney and Leon Smith, after completing his college career with a national championship in his weight class and the Hodge Trophy, as the most dominant grappler in the NCAA, after winning 3 state high school titles.  He then made the American team for the World Championships of wrestling, where he got a bronze medal.  Now, medaling in Paris will be huge for Mr. Parris.  In France, the competition begins August 5th.  Another recent Overtime guest, who won college track titles and participated in Olympic trials, along with winning gold in the world indoor track & field championships, is Chris Giesting.  Going into the Games, you might want to hear again from each of those men.  Check out their comments, in the Overtime Podcasts section of WRBIRadio.com.

The Reds will be back on the baseball diamond tonight, if the rainshowers of earlier this week in Georgia haven’t followed them to Florida.  Cincinnati’s scheduled to visit the Tampa Bay Rays tonight, with 8 & 3 Nick Lodolo pitching against 0 & 1 Shane Baz.  Be here for the action as the broadcast begins at 6:20. We’ll have it for you on your Sports Voice, 103.9, WRBI.

Things are changing in high school baseball, for the first time in a long time at one local school.  Jay Malott has retired from coaching the sport at South Dearborn High School, after being the only baseball coach many players, other students, administrators, and opponents have ever known there.  He was the head coach for 29 years, serving a total of 38 seasons.  Malott won the Knights a regional championship 17 years ago, 3 titles in the EIAC, 5 sectional championships, and a total of 406 games.  While no longer coaching he’ll still be teaching at South Dearborn.  What a career it’s been, for Jay Malott.
