After rolling pretty easily over the Colorado Rockies in their first 2 games of the series in Cincinnati, the Reds didn’t expect the game they got Wednesday night, which turned into a surprising loss, 6-5 in favor of Colorado.  Cincy got behind, battled back, but ended up falling just short, after scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th inning.  Some of the bright spots included a Jonathan India home run in the 3rd, Tyler Stephenson knocking one out to lead off the home 9th, and later Santiago Espinal singling in another score.  The contest ended when Elly De La Cruz grounded out.  With only 2 wins and 4 losses so far on their 10-game pre-All-Star break homestand, the Reds say they expected to do better, but they could still boost themselves a bit if they can win these next 4 contests leading to the break.  The last game of the season between the 2 clubs is set for this afternoon.  It’ll be new All-Star right-handed pitcher Hunter Greene on the mound for Cincinnati, with his 5 & 4 record, against the Rockies’ lefty Austin Gombert, who’s 2 & 5.  The broadcast comes to you at 12:40 this afternoon, on the Sports Voice, 103.9 WRBI.

And yes you heard right–  the Reds’ Hunter Greene is now headed for the All-Star Game next week, where he’ll replace injured Dodger Tyler Glasnow.  Greene’s at the top of the Reds rotation right now, with 116 strikeouts in 104 1/3 innings, his ERA at 3.45.  Greene’s 24 and Elly De La Cruz 22, making them the youngest pair of Reds’ All-Stars since 1999.

Also starting in the majors last night was Batesville native Bryan Hoeing, a second straight start, his second just this week.  Bryan went 3 innings for Miami again, allowing the Astros 5 runs, 4 of them earned, on 8 hits, with one walk and only one strikeout.  The Marlins lost to Houston, 9-1.

There was midday pro basketball in the state Wednesday, as the WNBA Indiana Fever fell behind the Washington Mystics in the first 3 quarters.  The Fever made a furious comeback in the 4th that almost worked, but ended up falling a bit short.  Indiana outscored Washington 26-13 in the 4th quarter, but were unfortunately too far back.  Despite rookie Caitlin Clark’s 29 points, 13 assists, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals, the Mystics got away with the win, 89-84.
