(Jackson County, IN) – Troopers from the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post investigated a single-vehicle personal injury crash that occurred Saturday on I-65 in southern Jackson County that resulted in a passenger being airlifted from the scene for treatment of serious injuries.

The initial investigation indicated that at approximately 3:30 pm Saturday, a brown 2007 Dodge, driven by 32-year-old Edward D. E. Garrett of Columbus was traveling northbound on I-65 near the 42-mile marker, just north of Crothersville when, for an unknown reason, Garrett lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle left the road and rolled multiple times before coming to rest on its top.

Edward Garrett was not injured in the crash but his 32-year-old wife Valerie was entrapped in the vehicle with possible serious injuries.

The Seymour Fire Department extricated her from the vehicle.

She was flown from the scene for further treatment, but her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Investigators believe speed and unsafe lane movements played a role in the crash.

Edward Garrett submitted to a test for intoxication, and those results are pending.

I-65 Northbound was closed for approximately 1.5 hours for the crash investigation and cleanup.

Indiana State Police troopers were assisted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the Crothersville Police Department, the Seymour Fire Department, the Vernon Township Fire Department, Jackson County EMS, IU Medical Helicopter, and Howard’s Wrecker Service.
