ISP investigating Greensburg man’s death in police custody

Greensburg, IN — Detectives from the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post are investigating after a man died Monday night while in Greensburg Police custody.

Greensburg officers were called to a home on the 300 block of West 11th Street after a man was reportedly chasing another man with a garden tool.

An officer arrived and began speaking with 30-year-old Andrew Hill of Greensburg outside the home.

ISP says during the encounter, Hill – who was no longer carrying the tool – advanced toward the officer and attempted to strike the officer, who then took him to the ground.

Another officer arrived and assisted in placing Hill in handcuffs.

State troopers say shortly afterward, Hill became unresponsive and the officers immediately began performing CPR.

They requested EMS, and Hill was taken to Decatur County Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

As a result, the Greensburg Police Department requested ISP take over the investigation.

An autopsy was performed in Hamilton County, Ohio.

The final autopsy and toxicology reports are pending.

ISP says the incident was captured on Greensburg Police body and dash cameras, and footage is being reviewed by state police detectives as part of the investigation.

State troopers say the Greensburg Police Department is cooperating with the investigation.
