ISP asked to investigate local PD accused of arresting potential council candidate

BROOKVILLE, IN — A local police department may come under the microscope after allegations surfaced about officers targeting and arresting a man for rape because they didn’t want him on the town council.

Franklin County Prosecutor Chris Huerkamp says he has dismissed the charges against the man, adding he is disturbed by the investigation and arrest and has requested an investigation by Indiana State Police.

The man reportedly wanted to run Brookville Town Council but is known for having anti-police views.

Officers also allegedly recovered marijuana, paraphernalia, and legend drugs at the time of the man’s arrest in January of this year.

The rape allegation was reportedly unrelated to the drug-related arrest.

A witness who came forward testified during a court hearing that officers encouraged her to run against the man for town council.

After the hearing, Huerkamp contacted ISP and requested an investigation into the Brookville Police Department.

WRBI is not identifying the man at the center of this case since he is no longer facing criminal charges.
