Indiana State Police Versailles Trooper promoted to Detective

(Versailles, IN) – A seven-year Indiana State Police-Versailles Post veteran has been promoted to Detective.

ISP Superintendent Douglas Carter says Trooper Derek Eggers is being elevated to the position and will continue serving in the agency’s Versailles District.

Detective Eggers is a 2010 graduate of Columbus North High School and graduated from IUPUC in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree.

Eggers worked as a corrections officer with the Bartholomew County Jail for over six years prior to being hired by the state police in October 2016.

He was assigned to the Versailles Post after graduating from the ISP Academy.  Throughout his career, he has been a Field Training Officer, Background Investigator, and a member of the Marijuana Eradication Team.

He has also worked at the Indiana State Police summer camps since 2017 and has been the director of the Columbus Law Camp since 2021.

Det. Eggers competed in ISP’s competitive promotion process which consists of written testing, interview, supervisor recommendations, and superintendent’s review which resulted in his promotion to the detective’s position.

As a detective, he will conduct criminal investigations throughout the ISP-Versailles District, which consists of Ripley, Decatur, Franklin, Dearborn, Bartholomew, Jackson, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, and Switzerland counties.
