Indiana Driving Tests Now Offered In Twelve Languages

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) is making it easier to obtain a license for people that do not speak English.

Don Snemis, Commissioner of the Indiana BMV announced Wednesday that Operator Knowledge Tests will be offered in 11 foreign languages:

Arabic, Burmese, Chin, German, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish and Vietnamese.

The choice of translations was primarily based on an Indiana Department of Education list of languages, via an Indiana Youth Institute study, spoken as the primary language in Indiana households other than English.

Snemis said, “Consistent with the vision of Governor Pence and Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellsperman to bring international jobs to Indiana, and their trade missions around the world, Indiana has become an attractive option for foreign business.”

“Additionally, Indiana has one of the largest foreign student populations in the country thanks to our outstanding institutions of higher learning. As a result, Indiana is a proud partner in the global business community. We welcome business leaders and students from all nations, and we hope that our efforts will play a small part in welcoming more investment in Indiana.”
