Bills being drafted to end Covid mandates

Statewide — Representative Randy Frye spoke on Coffee with Coffman on Monday morning to provide an update on the 2021 legislative session.

During the update, Rep. Frye discussed House Concurrent Resolution 18, which would terminate the public health emergency put in place by Governor Eric Holcomb. Rep. Frye stated that this will likely not move due to billions of dollars from the federal government tied to the requirement that states maintain the state of emergency.

However, State Rep. Frye does believe there will be a similar bill that gets started this week to remove the mask mandate and crowd-size limitations. Frye says the bill may address other issues, but masks and crowd limits are the main issues that will be addressed by the General Assembly. “Indiana is doing great,” said Frye. “The vaccines are going great, and I think it’s time to put an end to some of these restrictions.”

During the weekly Governers briefing, Gov. Holcomb stated, ” Clearly we don’t agree with it… but we agree on so much and have made so much progress.  You can look at employment reports, at so many different economic indicators and we are moving in the right directions.  When looking at all the health indicators, that is where we can no sacrifice or it will affect our livelihoods.”

Rep. Frye added that even if the bill to end the mask mandate is passed, Hoosiers could still choose to wear a mask if that makes them feel more protected against the virus.
