VERSAILLES, IN — A groundbreaking ceremony took place on the Courthouse Square in Versailles Friday for the Holdsworth Entertainment Pavilion.

Main Street Versailles took part in the state’s CreatINg Spaces grant program, in which the town would be eligible for a matching grant of up to $50,000, provided a similar amount was raised locally.

Town of Versailles Community Development Director Holly Wehr says they raised the 50-grand within a month, with another month left on the Patronicity campaign.

“We had another stretch goal of $10,000, so in addition to building the pavilion, we’re also going to be adding some percussive play instruments to our Pocket Park on the Versailles Square,” Wehr said.

The pavilion honors longtime South Ripley Schools music educators Gary and Patsy Holdsworth.

“They have given so much to this community. They were involved community members beyond their time as teachers, and they really fostered the love of music and arts in this community for lots of years,” Wehr added. “We thought it was really fitting to name this pavilion in honor of them.”

Patsy Holdsworth passed away in 2019 at the age of 74.
