GREENSBURG, IN — Greensburg City Council and the Fire Department last night agreed to take good-faith steps to move ahead with the new fire station project.

DLZ Indiana of South Bend was named the project’s architectural firm, while the Veridus Group of Indianapolis will be in charge of protecting the city’s best interests while the work is going on.

“We had a very tight field of four architects, designers who brought forth proposals and our group decided that this (DLZ) was the best fit for the community,” said Fire Chief Nathan Stoermer. “The next step will be to pick a contractor as we work through this and after getting our contractor we hope to unveil that whole package as to where we’re going to be, who’s designing it, and what our timeline is and the most important piece of that – for most taxpayers – is how much it’s going to cost.”

Stoermer said land acquisition negotiations for the site of the new fire station are still going on.

The new firehouse will replace Fire Station One on Ireland Street, which was been in service since 1975 and is considered obsolete.
