Glenn Wells

Glenn “Obie” Wells, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2023. “Obie”, a nickname his father bestowed on him when he was young, stuck so well most people never knew his real name. Obie grew up in Dover, met his bride-to-be, Sally, at North Dearborn and graduated from Guilford Tech. He was simply put, the man, the myth, the legend. He enjoyed taking things apart and putting them back together, especially when it came restoring old cars, which was always his dream. Obie also had race cars and was known to participate in a few races back in the day. In 1989, Obie started Wells Excavating and spent every day doing what he loved, digging dirt and moving dirt. He lived by the motto “if you don’t have dirt under your fingernails, you didn’t go to work today”. Obie’s most recent project was for him and Sally in New Alsace where they were planning to build a new home at Lucasville. When Obie wasn’t operating heavy equipment, he enjoyed socializing with friends at his favorite local taverns. He liked dancing and playing music so much that he started DJing for different events, if they enjoyed the oldies music of course. During the DJ breaks, you would see Obie grabbing Sally’s hand for their turn on the dance floor. Obie loved a lot of things, but family always came first and his grandkids and great-grandkids stole his heart.

Obie will be deeply missed by Sally, his wife of 50 years; children Shawn (Carisa) Wells and Ansel (Kellie) Walker; grandchildren McKenzie, Andrew and RJ Clark; great-grandchildren Lucas and Waylon; siblings Bill Wells, Sharon Castle, Donna (Kevin) Engles, Jerry “Porky” (Cora) Wells, Jackie (Doug) Powell. He is preceded in death by children Andrea Wells and Shawn Walker; siblings John Wells and Tom “Blackie” Wells; and parents Louis and Eleanora Wells.

Visitation for Obie will be held on Wednesday, January 31 from 5:00pm – 8:00pm at Andres-Wuestefeld Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 1 at 11:00am at Andres-Wuestefeld Funeral Home followed by burial at St. Martin’s Campus of All Saints Parish. Memorials can be made to Miller-York Fire Department.  Memorials will be accepted at the visitation or can be mailed to the funeral home.
