Shirley A. Dunbar, 90, of Osgood passed away at 12:07 a.m., Friday, January 26, 2024 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born in Osgood on July 29, 1933, the daughter of Roy and Myrtle Kaster Jenks. She was married to Donald Dunbar on December 31, 1954 and he preceded her in death on August 28, 2021. Survivors include three daughters Brenda (Rex) Strimple of Holton, Debbie (Paul) Hardy of Osgood, and Lucinda Dunbar of West Harrison; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; two brothers Ronald (Janie) Jenks of Milan and Richard (Ann) Jenks of New Albany; one sister Eileen Ogden of Osgood. She was preceded in death by her parents. Mrs. Dunbar was a 1951 graduate of Osgood High School. When first out of high school she moved to Cincinnati and did clerical work for Proctor & Gamble. When she returned home her working career spanned many years working at Hewitt’s Malt Shop in Versailles and as an office manager for Chris Volz Motors in Milan. She and Donald were also co-owners of the Dunbar & Bultman Dairy in Osgood, but Shirley was best known in the community as the owner and operator of the Card & Gift Gallery in Osgood. She enjoyed her family and especially loved tending to her flowers. She and Donald also showed antiques at many shows and malls in the tri-state area. Shirley was a member of the St. John Catholic Church in Osgood, the Osgood Historical Museum, and Shirley spent many years as a Girl Scout leader in the Osgood community. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 31 at 10:30 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial will be in the Mud Pike Cemetery near Osgood. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5p.m. to 7p.m. Memorials may be given to Our Hospice of Southcentral Indiana or the Osgood Historical Museum in care of the funeral home.
