(Milan, IN) – Milan Dollars for Scholars has announced the recipients of the 2024 Mortara Family Grant, which is given each year to four graduating seniors at Milan High School.

This year’s recipients of this prestigious scholarship are:

  • Ellie Knecht, daughter of Steve and Sandy Knecht
  • Ben Riehle, son of Eric and Lisa Riehle
  • Riley Schwipps, daughter of Tim and Rachel Schwipps
  • Trenton Langferman, son of Ryan and Carly Langferman

They will each receive up to $10,000 a year for four years towards pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university.

To be eligible for the grant, students must have a 3.9 or higher GPA, have plans to attend a four-year college or university, submit a written essay, and go through an interview process.

The Mortara Family Grant was established by the family of Dr. David Mortara in 2015.

David W. Mortara, PhD, is a 1958 graduate of Milan High School, and is the founder and President of Mortara Instrument, a medical technology company based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin which designs, manufactures, and distributes equipment worldwide.

Dr. Mortara is considered a leader in the field of electrocardiography (EKG) and over the course of his career has made significant contributions to cardiology.

Dr. Mortara contributes much of his success to the Milan High School community, who supported and facilitated his educational accomplishments.

Milan Dollars for Scholars says the scholarship is intended to extend similar opportunities to exceptional Milan students pursuing a four-year degree.
