Batesville 12, Milan 3 as heard on 103.9 WRBI
Postgame report by Tom Snape

The Batesville Bulldogs retained the Ripley County Bell with their hard-fought 12-3 win over the Milan Indians Friday at the Dog Pound.

The game was interrupted with 8:16 remaining in the first quarter due to lightning spotted in the area. Both teams retreated to their respective locker rooms but were able to return after the required 30-minute delay.

But neither team could provide lightning on the scoreboard through the first half, thanks to tough defense from both teams as well as missed opportunities on offense, untimely penalties and turnovers.

The first points of the game didn’t come until 2:40 remaining in the third quarter when Logan Burton drilled a 34-yard field goal to give Milan the 3-0 lead.

Batesville went in front with 9:35 left in the fourth period when Vonley Hund ran it in from 4-yards out. The extra point try failed, but the Bulldogs led 6-3.

The final score came with 5:58 remaining when Batesville quarterback Travis Lecher fired a 12-yard pass to Luke Wilson in the back of the end zone. The PAT was blocked, but the Bulldogs now had a 12-3 advantage, one which they were able to hold on to after the Dogs defense stifled a late Milan drive.

After taking over on downs, Batesville ran out the clock and escaped with the win and possession of the Bell for the second straight year.

The Bulldogs improve to 2-0 and will hit the road for the first time this season when they visit South Dearborn for an EIAC interdivisional matchup next Friday.  You can hear that game on 103.9 WRBI Radio (6:40 pm pregame/7 pm kickoff).  The Indians drop to 1-1 and will entertain Lawrenceburg next Friday at 7 pm at the Teepee.

East Central 42, Harrison 0
Postgame report by Rob Moorhead

The East Central Trojans ran their record to 2-0 with a 42-0 victory over the Harrison Wildcats in the I-74 Border War at St. Leon Friday.

Josh Ringer started the scoring for EC with a 17-yard run into the end zone with 9:23 left in the first quarter.  However, Ringer’s night was cut short as he left the game during the next offensive series with an injured left ankle.  The Trojan offense sputtered for the rest of the quarter but exploded for four touchdowns in the second period to break the game open.

A 48-yard touchdown pass from Cole Burton to Eli Aston followed a beautifully executed fake punt pass from Sam Ringer to Nate Buesing to give the hosts a 14-0 lead.  On the next offensive series, Aston scored out of the Wildcat formation to make it 21-0.  It became 28-0 when a Trae Ohmer 14-yard TD run followed a fumble recovery by teammate Jake Blake.  Burton then hooked up with Buesing on a 61-yard touchdown pass to put the Trojans up 35-0 at the half.

With the running clock mercy rule in effect throughout the entire second half, the Trojans recorded one final touchdown on a 23-yard scamper by Burton midway through the third quarter.  Sophie Browndyke was a perfect 6 for 6 in her extra point attempts.

Although the offense gets the headlines, it was another outstanding effort by the Trojan defense to get the shutout of the Cats  In eight quarters of action on the season, the EC defense has only allowed one touchdown.

The Trojans will host Cincinnati Moeller next Friday at 7:30 pm.  You can catch all the action online at WRBIRadio.com or on your smartphone via the free Tune-In app.  Pregame show is at 7:10 pm.
