Five run third inning plays major role in Batesville varsity baseball’s victory over Greensburg

Batesville varsity baseball defeated Greensburg Pirates 8-2 on Thursday, thanks to a timely five runs in a big third inning.

Greensburg got things started in the first inning with solo home runs by Austin Adams and Matthew (Joey) Everroad to give the Pirates an early 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the first inning, Batesville tied things up at two with a two-run single by Jack Grunkemeyer.

The Bulldogs pulled away for good with five runs in the third inning. Charlie Schebler, Grunkemeyer, and Will Jaisle all had one run doubles in the inning. One run singles by Alex Krekeler and Alex Baumer would cap off the 5 run inning for Batesville to give them a 7-2 lead.

One more run would be scored by the Bulldogs in the bottom of the sixth to give them the 8-2 win.

Jaisle got the start for Batesville. The righty lasted four innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out eight and walking one.

Caleb Greiwe was on the hill for Greensburg Pirates. The pitcher lasted four and a third innings, allowing 11 hits and seven runs while striking out seven. Bryson Kelso threw one and two-thirds innings in relief.

Greensburg Pirates totaled five hits in the game. Adams and Everroad both managed multiple hits for Greensburg Pirates.
