FEC questions Braun campaign contributions

U.S. Senator Mike Braun (R-Indiana)

WASHINGTON, D.C. — US Senator Mike Braun (R-Indiana) is facing criticism over campaign finances after a draft report of a Federal Elections Commission (FEC) audit was released.

The 57-page report claims Braun received more than $8 million in apparent prohibited loans and lines of credit during his successful run for the Senate in 2018.

This includes a $1.5 million campaign contribution from Braun’s former corporation, which he founded and ran before he was elected.

Braun is also being called into question over alleged improper reporting on hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations, and spending during his .

The Braun campaign has filed a response to the FEC audit, arguing that all loans and contributions were legal, and it blamed a former treasurer for the errors.

Braun unseated Democrat incumbent Joe Donnelly in the 2018 election.

A final decision from the FEC on the audit is pending.
