(Drewersburg, IN) – The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF-2 tornado hit eastern Franklin County early Thursday morning.
Eight to 10 homes in the Drewersburg area sustained damage, with the path going in a west-to-east direction.
“The strongest damage was a house that took a direct hit from the tornado,” said Franklin County Emergency Management Director Amy Lindsey. “It split the house right down the middle and took out the roof and collapsed the whole house.”
Lindsey says a woman had to be rescued from what was left of the home.

“She had been in her basement with her dogs and the tornado hit and the roof collapsed in on her house and she was trapped for a little while,” she said. “But the Drewersburg Fire Department was able to extricate her pretty quickly.”
Lindsey says, fortunately, there were no significant injuries.
She credits that to people paying attention to the warnings, and taking shelter before the twister roared through the area.
A number of homes in and around Drewersburg are a total loss, according to Lindsey.

Meanwhile, National Weather Service teams were still surveying damage along East Laughery Creek Road and Cole Lane near Aurora.
Dearborn County Emergency Management officials believe a tornado likely touched down in that area.
