(Southeastern IN) – As summer winds down, local law enforcement agencies and Indiana State Police are taking part in a campaign against drunk and impaired driving heading into the Labor Day weekend.
The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign starts today (Wednesday) and lasts through September 7.
Officers, deputies and troopers are working overtime patrols and conducting sobriety checkpoints to identify drivers who are under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
In Indiana, it is illegal to drive with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher, although drivers can be arrested at any BAC level if an officer believes they are impaired.
The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) says 23% of Indiana’s traffic fatalities in 2025 involved alcohol, and more than 41% involved drug impairment.
Authorities urge you to have a plan in place to get home safely if you are going to take part in activities involving alcohol, whether you are driving, riding or hosting an activity or event.
They urge you not to let someone get behind the wheel if they’ve been drinking. As a host, make sure all your guests have a safe way to get home.
If you are on the road and see a suspected drunk driver, call 911.
And always wear your seat belt. Authorities say it is the best defense against impaired drivers.
The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement campaign, administered by ICJI, is supported with federal traffic safety funds provided by the United States Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
