West Harrison, IN — A Batesville man, Zachary D. Gober, surrendered himself on a warrant for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated Causing Death and Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death. The warrant was requested by Dearborn County Prosecutor, Lynn Deddens after an investigation by the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department into a fatal hit and run that occurred on November 1 in West Harrison.
As part of the investigation, officers learned that Gober had been at the Borderline Bar in West Harrison on the night Casey Webb was killed. Officers obtained video footage from the bar that depicted Gober consuming alcohol at the bar and leaving a short time before Casey was struck and killed. Detectives also found video footage from an area business showing the truck in question hitting Webb, running off the roadway, and then continuing on down the road.
The investigation further revealed that Gober had been in a second incident after hitting Casey and leaving the scene. A Dearborn County Sheriff’s deputy advised that on November 1 he took a property damage report on Harrison Brookville Road. The deputy stated that he observed yaw marks, tire tracks, and vehicle parts in a yard, but no vehicle at the scene.
In an effort to locate the driver of the truck, Dearborn County Sheriff Shane McHenry issued a press release where he provided a video and photographs of the truck investigators had acquired from a business’ security camera. Two days after in incident, Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department received a call from an attorney advising that his client, Zachary Gober, was the driver of the pickup truck. The attorney further relayed the whereabouts of the pickup truck.
Gober was charged in the Dearborn Superior Court II, where he appeared in court on Tuesday.
