Doris A. Walke

Doris A. Walke, age 86 of Batesville, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at the St. Andrew’s Health Campus in Batesville.  Born October 5, 1937, in Batesville, she is the daughter of Carolyn (Nee: Wuestefeld) and August Gindling.  She married Allen L. Walke on June 27, 1959, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church near Sunman, Indiana.

Doris was primarily a stay-at-home mom but did work at the Sisters of Saint Francis for a period of time.  She was a member of St. Louis Church in Batesville, a member of the Red Hats, and various card clubs.  Although Doris enjoyed many interests, she would most certainly call herself a “couponer and was tickled when the store owed her money”, loved the fact that she was a founder of the St. Louis Rummage sale, an avid card player, loved to travel with the family, to Europe to see her  daughter as well as bus tours with some of her friends, and a supporter of the Reds, IU basketball and Purdue basketball.  However, her passion in life was her husband and children, grandchildren, and friends.  Doris was always ready and willing to watch the grandchildren and to help anyone that needed assistance and friendship.

She is survived by her husband Allen of Batesville; daughters Barbara Walke of Osgood, Indiana, and Jane (David) Peterson of Chicago, Illinois; son James Walke of Batesville; grandchildren Jason, Kate, and Claire Walke; great grandson Bentley Walke; brothers Edward (Joan) Gindling of Sunman and Richard (Lu Ann) Gindling of Cincinnati, Ohio; sisters Mary (John) Grote of Chickasha, Oklahoma, and Roseann (Gary) Prickel of Sanford, Florida.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Carol Goldsmith.

Visitation is Sunday, December 17th, from 2 – 4 p.m., at Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 18th, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville, with Fr. Suresh Ganta officiating.  The burial will follow at the church cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.  For online condolences go to www.weigelfh.com.
