Dayton man formally charged in Bright robbery

Lawrenceburg, In. — Dearborn-Ohio County prosecutor Lynn Deddens has formally charged Jeremy Watson, 38, of Dayton, with the robbery of the Dollar General in Bright on Monday, April 3.

Around 9:40 p.m. April 2 Dearborn County deputies responded to the retail store on a report of an armed robbery. Clerks told police a man approached the counter with some merchandise and announced a robbery in progress. Allegedly Watson said, “This ia robbery, give me the money in the drawer. The clerk told police Watson raised his shirt to show a handgun then removed it from his waistband and pointed it at the clerk and another employee.

On April 3 a concerned citizen saw news reports and called police with the identity. The citizen also told police Watson was working in West Harrison, was driving a black Ford Ranger and had reportedly stolen a handgun from a family member.

Detectives accessed social media to verify images, then requested and received a search warrant.

Through a search warrant, police were able to place Watson near the Dollar General Store at the time of the robbery through cell phone records. Additional GPS information placed Watson at the Red Roof Inn in Miamisburg.

Deputies observed Watson outside the motel wearing the same clothes in surveillance footage. When deputies approached Watson he pulled the handgun. Miamisburg police officers opened fire and struck Watson in the leg.
