GREENSBURG, IN —  Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch and the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) today announced a partnership with the Decatur County Community Foundation, Inc. to create an inclusive playground for the community.

Greensburg residents will soon have better access to a true Inclusion Park if a Crowdfunding campaign reaches its goal of raising $50,000 by December 31, 2021. If successful, the project led by Decatur County Community Foundation, Inc. will receive a matching grant as part of the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s (IHCDA) CreatINg Places program.

“This playground project is a great example of a community seeing a need and working together to create a lasting solution,” Crouch said. “This CreatINg Places campaign will bring an innovative space for the Greensburg community to enjoy an inclusive playground.”

Funds from this campaign will be used to purchase and install two accessible features in the soon-to-be-developed new playground in Greensburg’s Rebekah Park. Designed to be inclusive “from the ground up,” Greensburg Inclusion Park will deliver a unique and welcoming recreational experience that enables children of different ages and abilities to do what they do best: play.

“Over the past few months, our committee has been working to bring the only purpose-built destination of its kind in South-East Indiana serving children and adults of all ages and disabilities,” said director Brendan Bridges. “We look forward to the day that we are able to provide this inclusion park so that all individuals have the opportunity to come together to interact and play.”

The CreatINg Places program began in 2016, projects have raised more than $5.7 million in public funds and an additional $4.6 million in matching IHCDA funds.

The program is available to projects located in Indiana communities. Non-profit entities (with 501c3 or 501c4 status) and Local Units of Government are eligible to apply.

Eligible projects must have a minimum total development cost of $10,000, where the recipient will receive $5,000 in IHCDA matching funds should it successfully raise $5,000 through Patronicity. IHCDA will provide matching grant funds up to $50,000 per project.
