(Madison, IN) – A Cross Plains man is facing an attempted murder charge in connection with a shooting in Madison over the weekend.
Police were called to the shooting at an undisclosed location in Madison on Saturday night but were told the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.
Investigators identified 43-year-old Mark Swafford as the suspect and located him in the Cross Plains area.
A brief police pursuit took place, and around Midnight Sunday, the chase ended in a crash with entrapment near Friendship.
Swafford was arrested after the pursuit.
Two passengers self-extricated from the wrecked vehicle and were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say the shooting victim is expected to recover.

In addition to Attempted Murder (Level 1 felony), Swafford is charged with Aggravated Battery (Level 3 felony) and Battery (Level 5 felony).
He’s being held in the Jefferson County Jail pending further investigation.
