CPD Officer recognized for saving choking city worker

Columbus, IN—A Columbus police officer was presented with a letter of commendation on Tuesday at the Board of Public Works and Safety Meeting for helping save the life of a City employee who was choking on a piece of food.

On July 10, CPD Officer Brian Voyles, a six-year veteran of the department, was on patrol in the area of State Street and Pence Street when he was flagged down by Rudy Zeigler, a Columbus Department of Public Works employee.  Zeigler informed Officer Voyles that his co-worker was choking on a piece of food and unable to breathe.  Working with Mr. Zeigler, Officer Voyles administered the Heimlich maneuver and successfully dislodged the obstruction allowing the co-worker to breathe on his own.
