(Batesville, IN) – Batesville City Council this week approved nearly $150,000 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for completion of the third and final phase of the skatepark project.

This will involve construction of a Bouldering Wall and shelter area, along with landscaping and drainage work at the Batesville Skatepark and Outdoor Adventure facility on Pohlman Street.

Dr. Amy Carpenter with the Batesville Skatepark Advocacy Group and others made a presentation as part of their request for the ARPA funds at last month’s council meeting.

Since the request was an additional appropriation and federal coronavirus dollars were involved, council held a public hearing Monday night and voted in favor of the proposal.

District 2 Councilman Doug Stock abstained due to a potential conflict of interest.

Dr. Carpenter says after the skatepark group figures out the shelter design and makes other final decisions, work will begin and they hope to have it finished within the next few months.
