Carl Hauser, 75 of Greensburg

Carl Hauser was born June 23, 1942 in Oxford, OH, to Wilber and Effie (nee Huff) Hauser and entered into Heaven on Thursday, October 5, 2017. Around the age of 4, his family moved to a dairy farm outside Aurora, Indiana. Carl had fond memories of the “farm” especially playing basketball in the barn with many of the area school kids. Carl had four brothers, Wilbur (Jr.), Thomas (Tommy), Robert, and Fred Hauser and one sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Hauser.
In 1961, Carl graduated from Moores Hill High School and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army. Carl completed his basic training at Fort Hood, Texas and later completed Military Police training in Georgia. Carl loved his Military K9, Kaiser.
In 1966, Carl married Mary Katherine (nee Palmer) Hauser at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lawrenceburg, IN. Carl and Mary moved to Greensburg, which they would call home for the next 51 years. Carl and Mary have three children, Carl Lee, Kathy, and Brian.
In 1965, Carl started his career at Cummins Engine Company working on the shop floor. Carl eventually became a Union Representative and later moved in to Management. Anyone who knew Carl, knew he lived and breathed Cummins and was very proud of his accomplishments and friendships made while working at Cummins. Carl was known as the parts man as he could recite the parts number for just about any engine part. Later in his career, he managed the refurbishing of two Indy 500 historical Cummins race cars, which are displayed today at the Indy 500 Museum. Carl retired from Cummins in April 1995.
While his children were in school, Carl became involved with Boy Scout Troop 500, initially as the assistant troop leader and eventually becoming the troop leader. Carl mentored many young men through that program. During his leadership, Carl and the Scouts conducted numerous fund raising events, with the most notable being the infamous haunted house. Enough money was raised so the scouts could attend Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.
Carl was known for his humor and constant joking and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a fair, gentle man who saw the good in everyone he came in contact with. Carl was active in the Osgood American Legion, a former Commander, and was responsible for the display of numerous American flags at military funeral services. Carl is also a member of the Greensburg Eagles. Carl loved his two dogs, Buster and Lucky, and his cats, Baby and Park Kitty.
Carl is survived by his wife, Mary, his children, Carl (Mindy) Hauser, Kathy (Steve) Woliung, and Brian (Wendy) Hauser, eight (8) grandchildren: Spencer Hauser, Luke Hauser, and Carley (Patrick Henry) Hauser, Michael McQueen, Brittany (Zach) O’Neal, Christopher Hauser, Kelsey Hauser, Zach Hauser, and two (2) great-grandchildren, Paige Hauser and Aubrey Henry, his sister, Betty Hauser, sister-in-laws Joan Hauser and Myrna Hauser, and many nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law, Robert and Katherine Palmer, and four brothers, Jr., Tommy, Robert, and Fred, and one nephew, Bobby Hauser.
