Boy donates to Hospital Foundation of Decatur County for third straight year

(Greensburg, IN) – The Hospital Foundation of Decatur County (HFDC) recently received a donation from a 9-year-old Batesville boy.

For the third straight year, Max Schorey created art pieces he sold to the community through Facebook, and this year he raised $515.00 for HFDC. This year, he enlisted the help of his classmates.

The money will go to the Concussion Impact Testing Fund.

“I think the reason why I chose it is I just want to help the hospital raise money for equipment and the patients,” Schorey said.

“Max chose this fund because it directly impacts youth in our community,” said HFDC Executive Director Mandy Lohrum. “Impact Testing costs DCMH about $1,000 annually to offer. Max’s funds paid for over half of that cost. Concussions are the most common traumatic brain injury, with post-concussion syndrome happening in one out of five concussions. Concussions require prompt care by a healthcare expert trained in managing concussions.

“Max is an extraordinary young man,” Lohrum added. “The Foundation is so grateful for his support. Donors like Max are touching the lives of individuals they may never meet, and that is the greatest gift.

Max’s parents are Liz Schorey, and Travis and Melissa Schorey.

HFDC was founded in 1992 as a 501 (C) 3 organization to provide additional financial support for Decatur County Memorial Hospital’s healthcare initiatives.
