The Batesville Middle School cross country teams have kicked off the season.

The Bulldogs traveled to Greensburg Monday evening to take on the St. Mary’s Knights.

Despite the wet course conditions, Batesville brought back two road wins.

The girls stepped to the line first and were again led by 8th grader Emmalynn Allgeier who placed 2nd overall.  Molly Walter wasn’t far behind placing 3rd while Eisley Peters was 4th.  Also earning a top 10 ribbon was Anna Ollier in 8th and Addi Fogle in 10th.  Additional varsity runners were Maddie Balash in 12th and Emma Robben in 14th.

As a team, BMS had a total of 27 points, just edging past St. Mary’s, which had 28 points.

For the boys, 7th grader Simon Brelage set the pace for the team finishing 2nd overall.  Asher Black, Grant Luhman, and Salvador Schutte finished consecutively in 4th, 5th, and 6th places.  Benton Skinner was the 10th runner to cross the line followed by Gavin Linville and Anze Vicente in 11th and 12th to round out the varsity team.

Just like the girls squad, the BMS boys had a narrow victory with a total of 27 points to best the Knights, who had 28 points.

Last Saturday, Batesville Middle School hosted the second annual Bulldog Kickoff Cross Country Invitational at Batesville High School.

The girls’ race got underway first with eighth grader Emmalynn Allgeier leading the way for the Bulldogs.  Allgeier placed fifth overall in a time of 12:54.  Sixth grader Molly Walter crossed next for the dogs finishing in 7th place.  Also receiving a ribbon on the day were Eisley Peters in 11th place and Anna Ollier in 13th place.  Addisyn Fogle placed 20th, Maddie Balash 23rd, and Emma Robben in 28th place.

The team finished third overall with 55 points coming up short behind the leader, Corydon Central, who had a total of 33 points and Madison in second place with 47.

There were a total of seven schools with full teams participating in the girls race.  Congratulations are also in order for 6th grader Ava McMullen, who won the girls’ JV race.

In the boys’ race, Corydon Central again dominated, winning with a team score of only 23 points in the field of 10 complete teams.

The Bulldogs finished in the middle of the pack in 6th place with a total of 133.

Seventh grader Simon Brelage crossed the line first for the bulldogs placing 16th overall.  Other varsity runners included sixth grader Asher Black in 24th place, Grant Luhman in 27th, Benton Skinner 30th, Gavin Linville 36th, John Hohenstein 42nd, and Andrew Kaiser in 57th place.

BMS sixth grader Bowen Richard also captured the JV title.
