Bill to help active military could become law

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — State Representative Randy Frye’s (R-Greensburg) bill ensuring that service members who are also employed by the state receive fair compensation and are granted time off when called to duty could soon be law.

Under House Bill 1324, members of the Indiana National Guard or a reserve component of the United States Armed Forces would be able to take a leave of absence from their citizen, state agency jobs without being required to lose time or compensation while on active duty.

The compensation would be the amount that is equal to the difference between the military member’s active duty military pay and the salary they receive from their citizen job.
