Batesville Middle extends volleyball records to 8-0

In golf, to have a snowman on your scorecard is not a good thing. But when you have a snowman on the left side of your won/loss record and a goose egg on the right, well that is a good thing.  Both Batesville junior high volleyball programs are now 8-0 after both posted victories Thursday against South Dearborn.

BMS seventh grade coach Angie Ehrman reported her team had a sluggish start. They were down 8-4 in the first game but rallied to win 25-11.  The Bulldogs came out hot in game two and won 25-8.

“Caitlyn Fox was strong from the service line with 10 straight points in game one,” noted Ehrman.  “She finished with 17 points including 11 aces. Maddie Haskamp and Alexis Gallagher each had eight service points. Madi Meyer chipped in five points. In the front row, Sydney Campbell earned two kills. Haskcamp, Fox and Leigh Hertel each had a kill. Back row players who contributed to the win were Brooke Wilhelm, Gallagher and Eliza Weber.”

The Batesville eighth had a bit more adversity as the Dogs dropped the first set in a nailbiter to the Squires 25-23 but bounced back to win the next two games 25-15 and 15-6.

“Both teams were committed to three hits which made for several exciting, action-packed volleys throughout the match,” recalled Batesville eighth grade coach Shelly Prickel.  “It was a total team effort to pull off the victory. Addison Luers set the pace from the service line scoring 14 points including an impressive eight aces. Reesa Zimmerman was perfect on all 14 of her service attempts scoring 12 points including four aces. Ava Walsman contributed five points with three of those falling for an ace. The front line attack was led by Luers who went 15 for 18 with five kills and Zimmerman who connected on 11 of 13 spikes and also had five kills. Grace Walter had the most touches earning four kills in 23 swings. Jade Martin notched two kills with three good spikes. Defensively, Walter and Zimmerman each had a good block. Anya Richey, Layney Laker and Briley Broshears all had solid passing in the back while Macy Young chipped in to help the front line secure the victory.

We thank coaches Ehrman and Prickel for the information.
