Batesville Makes History with Sweep at State Archery Competition

(Batesville)  Congratulations are due some sharp-eyed young people in all grades– high school, middle school, and elementary– in Batesville.

Local boys and girls coached by Mike Weiler took top honors at Indiana’s statewide National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) tournament.  Batesville youth claimed 1st Place in each age division, the first time that had been achieved by any school.

Seventy-two local young people took part in the competition last Saturday, the 9th.

Lydia Haskamp was the overall 1st Place winner for high school girls, her score totaling 293 points.  Lilian Eckstein and Quinten Sarringhaus nipped at Haskamp’s heels, in a tie at 290 each.  Kayden Weiler was next for the Bulldog high schoolers, at 286.  Team score, 3411.

In the middle school ranks, Varshath Rajesh tallied 288, good for 1st among boys his age.  On the middle school girls’ side, Grace Magee and Gracie Doll shot 284 and 283, respectively, and Alyssa Mauer was close behind at 277.  Batesville’s middle school team score is said to have exceeded their coaches’ expectations, at 3283.

The Intermediate school’s archers were led by Rebecca Siebert, with 270 points and 3rd place among elementary girls.  Levi Trenkamp racked up 268, and was closely followed by Bruce Li and Wesley Rogier.  The elementary-intermediate team score totaled 3063.

Batesville’s young archers were coached by, along with Weiler, Daren Sarringhaus, Adam Ramsey, Rich Scott, Doug Pulskamp, Nanette Foster, Guili Zhang and Jeff Day.  They say the support of family and friends was much appreciated, and crucial to the team’s success.
