(Batesville, IN) – The Batesville Fire Department is making a significant upgrade to its fleet by ordering a new fire engine to replace Engine 48, a 1985 Pierce Arrow that has served the community as a front-line engine for the past 40 years.

Over the decades, advancements in technology and safety features have greatly improved in the fire apparatus industry.

The replacement engine, a Pierce Enforcer PUC, brings a host of modern features and benefits.

One of the most notable improvements aside from overall safety is its increased storage capacity for equipment, which will allow the department to consolidate fire apparatus. The extra storage will allow firefighters to carry a wide variety of equipment and tools for firefighters to handle nearly all call types using a single apparatus. This consolidation will result in a reduction of maintenance expenses associated with operating multiple apparatus.

The advantage of the Pierce Enforcer PUC is its innovative design, which maximizes compartment space and water capacity. The new engine will carry 1,000 gallons of water, an increase of 250 gallons over the department’s current first-line engines. This additional water capacity will significantly enhance the department’s firefighting capabilities, ensuring they are better equipped, especially in our non-hydrated coverage area.

While the department is excited to receive this new fire engine, the current build time is estimated to be around three to four years. This timeline underscores the complexity and precision involved in constructing a modern fire apparatus that meets the specific needs of the department and community.

This state-of-the-art fire engine will help ensure that the department continues to meet the community’s growing demands while prioritizing firefighter safety and operational efficiency.
