The Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Reds 9-4 in the series finale at PNC Park heard yesterday on WRBI. Despite the loss, the Reds take the series two games to one. Ryan O’Hearn clubbed two home runs to lead the Pirates offense. Brady Singer pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed nine hits, five earned runs, did not walk anyone and struck out six. He took the loss and is now 3-7. Eugenio Suarez was hit on the left hand by a pitch in the 6th inning. X-rays were inconclusive; Suarez will undergo a CT scan today in Milwaukee. Elly De La Cruz sprained his left ankle coming out of the batter’s box when he grounded into a double play in the 5th. He finished the game even after a one hour and five-minute rain delay during the bottom of the 8th inning. The Reds open a four-game series in Milwaukee tonight against the NL Central-leading Brewers. A pair of lefthanders will start the series lid lifter. Nick Lodolo (2-2, 5.59 Earned Run Average) goes for Cincinnati, while Milwaukee counters with Robert Gasser (1-3, 4.50 ERA). Coverage begins at 7:10 on 103.9 FM.
Before yesterday’s game, the Reds recalled outfielder TJ Friedl from Triple-A Louisville and placed outfielder Blake Dunn on the 10-day Injured List retroactive to Saturday with a right elbow sprain. Friedl was 0-for-4 yesterday in his return to the Major Leagues.
The Indiana Pacers Summer League schedule has been announced. The Pacers will begin play against the Cleveland Cavaliers at 4:30 p.m. on July 10. That will be followed by a game versus the Philadelphia 76ers on July 11 at 5:30 p.m. The third Summer league contest will be against the Toronto Raptors at 4:30 p.m. on July 13. The Pacers will close out the regular schedule against the Minnesota Timberwolves, which will tipoff at 3:30 p.m. on July 15. That game will pit former Purdue Boilermaker teammates Braden Smith and Trey Kaufman-Renn against each other.
