Nathaniel Lowe’s two-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the 9th inning lifted the Cincinnati Reds over the Detroit Tigers 9-8 last night at Great American Ball Park in a game heard on WRBI. The Reds overcame an early 5-0 deficit and took the lead after scoring four runs in the 7th before the Tigers hit two homers an inning later to retake the lead. The Reds were down to their final out in the 9th before Spencer Steer singled, and Lowe homered off Tigers closer Kenley Jensen to walk it off. Lowe and Matt McLain both homered twice for the Reds. Graham Ashcraft got the win in relief. He’s 1-0. Jensen took the loss to fall to 0-1. Game two of the series is tonight. Brady Singer will start for the Reds; the Tigers will go with Jack Flaherty. Before the game, an induction ceremony for the Reds Hall of Fame Class of 2026 will take place. The Reds on Friday placed catcher Jose Trevino on rehab assignment at Single-A Dayton. Trevino has been on the injured list with a thoracic spine strain, and could be activated tomorrow.
The NFL Draft resumed last night in Pittsburgh. The Cincinnati Bengals selected Texas A & M defensive end Cashius Howell in the second round, and chose Washington cornerback Tacario Davis with their third round pick. The Indianapolis Colts selected Georgia linebacker C.J. Allen in the second round, and picked A.J. Hauley, a safety from LSU with their third round selection. The Draft concludes today with rounds 4 through 7.
The Indiana Fever open WNBA preseason play this afternoon on the road against the New York Liberty. Indiana went 24-20 last year before losing in the first round of the playoffs with most of their regular starters out with injuries.
