Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrests

(Brookville, IN) – A pair of Brookville residents are facing felony drug charges following a traffic stop this week.

Franklin County Prosecutor Chris Huerkamp says 52-year-old Matthew Hamilton and 40-year-old Rachel Potter were arrested after a Brookville police officer pulled over a truck on a report of a rolling domestic dispute around 11:00 Tuesday night.

Huerkamp says a search of the truck turned up 49 grams of methamphetamine and 37 grams of marijuana, along with syringes and other drug paraphernalia.

Hamilton is charged with Dealing in Methamphetamine (Level 2 felony); Unlawful Possession of a Syringe (Level 6 felony); Possession of Marijuana (Class B misdemeanor), and Possession of Paraphernalia (Class C misdemeanor).

Potter is charged with Possession of Methamphetamine (Level 6 felony).

Hamilton and Potter appeared in Franklin Circuit Court for their respective initial hearings on Thursday and entered preliminary pleas of not guilty.

Judge Clay Kellerman set Hamilton’s bond at $60,000 cash, while Judge Alex Dudley set Potter’s bond at $5,000 cash.

Both Hamilton and Potter are being held in the Franklin County Security Center awaiting trial.

According to Huerkamp, the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
