Batesville shut out Franklin County 5-0 in varsity baseball last evening in Brookville. The Bulldogs Ronan Post went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs. Noah Weigel also had two hits and stole a pair of bases. Rylan Yeager gave up one hit with four strikeouts and no walks over three innings and got the win. Brayden Maple notched the save. The Wildcats Blake Stephenson was tagged with the loss. He pitched 5 2/3 innings, gave up five runs (four earned), six hits, four strikeouts and five walks. The two teams meet again Thursday evening in Batesville…In the JV game, it was Franklin County over Batesville 6-2.
Batesville boys golf won a four-team match at Brook Hill Golf Course in Brookville. It was the Bulldogs as a team shooting a 159; Connersville 169; and the host Wildcats 173. Oldenburg Academy did not have a full team. Batesville’s Ian Hixson took medalist honors with a 36.
Lawrenceburg won both ends of a four-team track and field meet last night in Tiger Town. LHS won the girls meet with 85 points, followed by Batesville with 62, Switzerland County with 52, and Rising Sun 28. In the boys meet, it was the Tigers 85, the Pacers 61, the Bulldogs 59, and the Shiners 18.
The Cincinnati Reds bounced the Tampa Bay Rays 6-1 in St. Petersburg, Florida in the series lid lifter heard last night on WRBI. Sal Stewart clubbed a two-run homer in the top of the 1st inning for his eighth round tripper of the season. Elly De La Cruz drove in a run in the 3rd, and Rece Hinds added a two-run double in the 6th that put the game away. Rhett Lowder gave up a run on five hits with three strike outs and two walks in six innings to get his third win of the year. The Reds have won four straight and go to 19-5. They also have a one-and-a-half game lead over Chicago, St. Louis and Pittsburgh in the National League Central. Game two the series is tonight. Chase Burns gets the start for the Reds. He’s 1-1 with a 3.42 ERA. Airtime is 6:10 on 103.9 FM.
Dexter Lawrence says he’s ready to embrace the pressure of helping the Cincinnati Bengals make a Super Bowl run. Lawrence made those comments to the Cincinnati media on Monday, one day after the trade with the New York Giants that brought the three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle to the Bengals was made official. Cincinnati dealt the #10 overall pick in this week’s NFL Draft to the Giants. Lawrence signed a one-year contract extension on Sunday once he officially became a Bengal.
