Clifford “Dutch” Hoffmeier

Clifford Nicholas Hoffmeier, lovingly known as “Dutch”, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2026. He leaves behind a legacy rooted in faith, family, music, and the land he cherished. Born in 1933 in Dearborn County, Indiana, Dutch was raised on a farm in Yorkville, where he developed a lifelong love for the outdoors. He found great joy in tending to his garden, growing beautiful flowers, and cultivating crops – simple pleasures that reflected his deep connection to nature. Dutch was a proud graduate of Guilford High School, class of 1952. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1954 and honorably served his country traveling to Japan and Korea during his time of service. When Dutch returned from military service he was employed by Monsanto Chemical Company for 37 years.

On October 25, 1958, Dutch married the love of his life, Wilma Kuhn Hoffmeier. A devout Catholic, Dutch was a dedicated member of St. Martin’s Church where his faith guided his life and service to others. Dutch had a deep passion for music, especially country and bluegrass. A gifted fiddle player, he was a founding member of the Old Time Fiddlers Association and shared his talent with countless friends, family members, and audiences over the years. In recognition of his contributions to music, he was inducted into the Southeastern Indiana Musicians Association Hall of Fame in September 2002. Dutch was a member of many bands – most notably – Home Brew.

Dutch was a devoted sports fan who especially loved cheering for the Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Bengals, and UC Bearcats. Above all, Dutch treasured time spent with his family. He especially loved being surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He found his greatest joy in the laughter and presence of his grandchildren. Dutch will be remembered for his strong faith, music, love of the land, and the warmth he brought to everyone who knew him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Our family would like to thank the VA, Willows of Greensburg and Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana.

Dutch will be deeply missed by his brothers Loran (Rosemary) Hoffmeier, Lester Hoffmeier and brother-in-law Dave (Dianne) Kuhn; children Jeff (Judy) Hoffmeier, Beverly (Ray) Fisher, Ronald (Dinah) Hoffmeier, Sheila (Scott) Knollman; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and eight step-great grandchildren.
