
(Greensburg, IN) – Shirley Rigby of Greensburg was found safe Tuesday evening, several hours after she became the subject of a Silver Alert.
Greensburg Police say the 83-year-old Rigby, who has diagnosed dementia, was last seen around 5:30 p.m. on South Franklin Street.
GPD received the report around 7 p.m. that she left her home and never returned.
First responders from a variety of agencies arrived on the scene and immediately began searching and continued to gather information.
While Rigby’s whereabouts were unknown, the information was posted on social media and received immediate attention.
With information provided by concerned citizens, Rigby was found about a mile from her home.
Police say she traveled through a heavily vegetated area and was located near an industrial facility.
The Greensburg Police Department thanks city residents who provided information and assistance, along with the Greensburg Fire Department; Decatur County Communications; Decatur County Sheriff’s Office; Decatur County Emergency Management Agency; Letts Fire Department; Shelby County Sheriff’s Office; Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office, and Columbus Police Department.

Her family became concerned when she went missing, and the Silver Alert was issued.
The alert was canceled about three hours later when she was located.
“Thank you to the entire community for your assistance,” the Greensburg Police Department said in a statement.
