South Ripley’s Improved Ball Diamond

(Versailles, IN) – A ribbon cutting was held Thursday evening for South Ripley High School’s renovated baseball and softball facility.

The upgrades to Forest G. Waters Field include artificial turf, a portable mound, adjustable base configurations, and portable fences.

“As a South Ripley alum, I never thought we’d have something like this at South Ripley,” said Superintendent Rob Moorhead (Class of 1983). “Having played a few games on this field myself, Forest G. Waters Field has always been nice, but we’ve taken it to a new level, and it wouldn’t have been possible without all of the support of the folks you saw today at the ribbon cutting.

“First of all, you’ve got to thank St. Elizabeth Healthcare and the Cincinnati Reds Community Fund,” he added. “Without them, this project doesn’t happen.”

Those two entities provided the seed money, but South Ripley was responsible for raising the rest of the funds for the project.

“We have a truly supportive community, and so many businesses, organizations, individuals stepped up with contributions and sponsorships that allowed us to get this project done in record time,” Moorhead said.

Following the ribbon cutting, the host Raiders christened their revamped digs with a dramatic 6-5 walk off win over visiting South Decatur.

A formal field dedication will take place on Wednesday, April 22 at 4 p.m. when South Ripley plays Rising Sun in a softball/baseball doubleheader.

The ceremony is open to the public.
