
Connersville rallied to beat Batesville 7-5 in varsity baseball last night on the Spartans home diamond. The Bulldogs took a 5-4 lead in the top of the 6th inning and led until Connersville rallied for three runs in the bottom of the frame. Batesville falls to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the EIAC. They’ll host North Decatur in non-conference action tonight…Batesville took the JV contest 16-0 over Connersville at the Dawg Pound. Bulldogs lefthander Tiago Batta struck out 10 Spartans. Batesville scored 10 runs in the 1st inning.
Batesville swept Franklin County in a dual high school track and field meet in Brookville last evening. The Bulldogs took the girls meet 106-22, and it was BHS winning the boys meet 98-25.
In middle school track and field, Southwestern took both the boys and girls four-way meets with St. Louis, Jac-Cen-Del and Milan. Scores in the boys meet were Southwestern 80; St. Louis 47; JCD 40, and Milan 11. On the girls side, Southwestern 65; Jac-Cen-Del 55; St. Louis 42, and Milan 16.
The Cincinnati Reds blanked the Miami Marlins 2-0 in a game heard last night on WRBI. Brandon Williamson rebounded from a rough first outing, pitching 6 2/3 scoreless innings. He gave up three hits, walked one and struck out four, and retired the last 11 hitters he faced. Sal Stewart plated the Reds first run with an RBI single in the 4th inning. Tyler Stephenson added an insurance run with a solo homer in the 8th. The Reds have now won four in a row. Game two of the series is tonight. All-Star lefthander Andrew Abbott starts for Cincinnati; he’ll be opposed by righthander and former Cy Young Award winner Sandy Alcantara. Airtime is 6:10 on 103.9 FM.
The Michigan Wolverines are men’s college basketball national champions after holding off the Connecticut Huskies 69-63 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis last night. Michigan’s Elliot Cadeau led all scorers with 19 points and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. It’s the second national champion in program history and the first for the Wolverines since 1989.
The Indiana Pacers return home tonight to face the Minnesota Timberwolves. Tipoff in downtown Indy is at 7 p.m.
