(Osgood, IN) – The Jac-Cen-Del School Board recently adopted a Behavioral and Digital Threat Assessment program, which is required by Indiana law.
“It’s taking what we’re already doing to try and target some of our neediest students or ones who have some struggles or behavioral things at home, or there’s a myriad of things that could be going on, and gives us a better plan to try and work with those students and help those families,” said Superintendent Sam Melton. “Maybe it’s some outside resources that we can get them in touch with.”
Melton says these include mental health or in-home services.
“Things that we can try and do to really help those students and families get a better foothold, and help them basically pull themselves up if they need a little assistance,” he added. “And this is just basically a document for us that’s going to be a continuous living document for us, that we try and figure out what best meets the needs of our students and families here at Jac-Cen-Del.’
Melton says the plan won’t be implemented for all students – just those who need assistance dealing with at-home problems, suicidal ideation, and other issues.
The process would provide ways to identify, assess and respond to concerning behaviors or digital threats that may indicate a risk to the student, their family or the JCD school community.
The goal is to offer guidance before a situation gets out of hand.
