(St. Leon, IN) – A family daycare and learning center will be available for the young children of faculty and staff at Sunman-Dearborn Community Schools starting with the 2026-27 academic year.

The Sunman-Dearborn School Board approved the establishment of a family daycare and learning center at last Thursday’s meeting.

Superintendent Dr. Andrew Jackson says it will take in children six-weeks-old to ages three and four, and will be operated at North Dearborn Elementary School.

“They have several large rooms there in the middle of the building that are available. It has restrooms that already accommodate smaller children. It has hand washing stations, sinks, refrigeration, things like that that would be needed for a daycare,” Dr. Jackson said.

He adds this is part of the district’s effort to retain and attract staff.

“One of our five-year strategic plan goals is to have the highest-paid staff in Southeastern Indiana with benefits and pay, and this is just another benefit,” Dr. Jackson said.

He appeared on Friday morning’s edition of The Daily Pod.
