Oldenburg Academy held off Jac-Cen-Del 56-51 in Class 1A Sectional 60 boys basketball action at Milan as heard last night on the Sports Voice. The Twisters’ Matthew Belt tossed in a game-high 21 points; Connor Holder added 14, and Jack Freeland chipped in 10. Darian Grieshop led the Eagles with 18 points. OA improves 11-12 and advances to Friday’s second semifinal against third-ranked Hauser. JCD ends the season at 4-19…

In the nightcap of our doubleheader on WRBI, it was South Decatur over county rival North Decatur 71-53 in Class 1A Sectional 59 at Tri. The Cougars Drake Scaggs led all scorers with 23 points. Teammates Braden Gerrian and Karson Templeton added 16 a piece, and Cayden Drake contributed 12. Wyatt Reisman led the Chargers with 18 points; Logan O’Dell put in 13 and Owen Rennekamp had 10 points. South Decatur goes to 16-6 and will play Edinburgh in Friday’s second semifinal. North Decatur finishes at 11-14.

The Los Angeles Clippers hammered the Indiana Pacers 130-107 in NBA action heard late last night on the Sports Voice. Paskal Siakam returned to the the lineup after being out with an injury and led the Pacers with 29 points. The Blue and Gold stay in LA and go up against the Lakers tomorrow night.

College football Hall of Fame coach Lou Holtz died Wednesday at the age of 89. Holtz guided Notre Dame to the 1988 National Championship – finishing a perfect 12-0 season in restoring the Fighting Irish to national prominence. Over a career spanning six programs, he compiled 249 wins, and later became a familiar analyst on ESPN’s college football coverage. Holtz coached the Irish from 1986 through 1996 and won 100 games in South Bend.

In college basketball last night, #13 Purdue slid past Northwestern 70-66; Indiana rolled over Minnesota 77-47;  Stanford topped Notre Dame 86-78, and it was Creighton 76, Butler 59.

The Cincinnati Reds hammered Cuba 19-2 in Goodyear, Arizona yesterday. The Redlegs play the Los Angeles Dodgers this afternoon. First pitch in Goodyear is at 3:05.

Reds ace Hunter Greene is scheduled for an MRI on Friday after he reported right elbow stiffness earlier this week. Manager Terry Francona says Greene will not throw until at least Tuesday, when the team expects to have more information.

The Reds have acquired righthanded pitcher Kyle Nicolas from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for infielder/outfielder Tyler Callihan. The 27-year-old Nicolas split last season between the Pirates and Triple-A Indianapolis. He had a 1-2 record with a 4.74 ERA in 21 appearances with Pittsburgh. The 25-year-old Callihan made his Major League debut with the Reds last season and appeared in four games before suffering a season-ending left forearm fracture in May in Atlanta.
