A battle of Class 3A ninth-ranked teams saw host Shelbyville lead from start-to-finish and beat Batesville 84-69 in a game heard last night on the Sports Voice. The Golden Bears’ Damarion Nicholson led all scorers with 27 points and Caden Claxton added 15. The Bulldogs had three players in double figures, led by James Hughes with 18 points. Trenten Luers and Brayden Maple followed with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Batesville ends the regular season with an 18-4 record. 

In other action last night, it was Lawrenceburg over Oldenburg Academy 59-46, and Rushville topped North Decatur 61-42.

Coming up tonight, Jac-Cen-Del visits South Ripley in the regular season finale for both teams. The Raiders can claim the outright ORVC championship with a victory. Coverage begins around 7:15 on 103.9 FM and the WRBI App…Elsewhere around the area tonight, East Central visits Greensburg. With a win, the Trojans would share the EIAC championship with Batesville; Milan heads to Union County, and South Decatur entertains Knightstown.

The Charlotte Hornets rolled over the Indiana Pacers 133-109 in NBA last night in downtown Indianapolis. Andrew Nembhard led the Pacers with 20 points while Micah Potter added 19. Forward Obi Toppin returned to the lineup after missing all but two games this season with a stress fracture in his right foot. He started the game and scored three points in eight minutes on the floor. The Blue and Gold will be back in action Sunday when they wrap up the homestand against Memphis.

#13 Michigan State got past 8th-ranked Purdue 76-74 in college basketball last night in West Lafayette. Braden Smith led the Boilermakers with a double double: 12 points and 10 assists. With the loss, Purdue falls to 22-6 overall and 12-5 in the Big Ten.

The Cincinnati Reds outslugged the San Diego Padres is 11-10 in Cactus League baseball yesterday in Goodyear, Arizona. The Reds host the Los Angeles Angels this afternoon. First pitch is at 3:05.

The Indianapolis Colts have given quarterback Anthony Richardson permission to seek a trade, according to ESPN. Richardson was selected by the Colts with the number four overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft. Injuries, inconsistent play and improper preparation limited Richardson to 15 starts and 17 appearances in his first three seasons.  He lost his starting job to veteran free agent Daniel Jones during training camp last summer. The Colts are committed to proceeding with Jones as their starter, and plan to sign him to a long-term contract.
