Green Grants Grow in Ripley Co

(Batesville, IN) A local foundation is putting money where its mission is. The Ripley County Community Foundation handed out $5,000 in environmental grants Tuesday to three organizations working to protect and restore the county’s natural landscape.

Kids Discovery Factory, the Ripley County Board of Commissioners, and St. Louis Catholic School each walked away with a slice of the foundation’s A Greener Tomorrow grant — a program designed to fund projects that protect, enhance, and restore the environment while building a culture of stewardship across the county.

Here’s what each group plans to do with the money:

Kids Discovery Factory will use the funds to build a hands-on STEAM program focused on water conservation and the value of natural resources.

The Ripley County Board of Commissioners will plant native hardwood trees on the courthouse lawn — a move aimed at preserving green space right in the heart of the town square.

St. Louis Catholic School will expand its student-led recycling program, which already engages students, teachers, and community members in sustainability efforts.

“The Ripley County Community Foundation is pleased to support projects that enhance the environment and natural resources of our county,” said Amy Streator, the foundation’s executive director. “We’re also empowering younger generations to become environmental stewards in their schools and communities.”
