East Central knocked off Class 3A #7 Batesville 68-64 in boys basketball heard Saturday afternoon on the Sports Voice. The Trojans deny, for now, the Bulldogs an outright EIAC championship. EC improves to 9 and 11 overall and 5-1 in the conference. BHS falls to 17-3 and 6-1. The Trojans’ Liam Rogers tossed in a game-high 29 points; teammate Keaton Beck added 12. The Bulldogs were led by Kamryn Holcomb with 24 points, and James Hughes added 19. Batesville won the JV contest 44-27.  Sam Dice scored 13 to lead the Bulldogs in that one.

In the second game of our boys hoops doubleheader on WRBI, South Dearborn held off Milan 59-51 Saturday night. The Knights’ Scout Gray led all scorers with 19 points; Tyler Christian added 17, and Mason Lane chipped in 12. Micah Norman led the Indians with 15 points. He’s now 13 away from the school’s all-time scoring mark. Ben Knowlton added 11. With the win, South Dearborn goes to 13-5 while Milan dips to 9-8…

Also on Saturday, it was Greensburg over Madison 75-46.

Congratulations to local wrestlers who qualified at the New Castle semi-state on Saturday for next weekend’s State Meet. Area grapplers who will compete at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis are brothers Mason (106 pound weight class) and Matthew Baylor (132) from Milan; Batesville’s Adam Brewer (144); and Nyson Euden (165) and Brody Wingate (190) from East Central.

The Cincinnati Reds have signed to a minor league contract and invited to Major League spring training camp infielder Nathaniel Lowe. He split time last year between Washington and Boston. Lowe won a World Series ring with Texas in 2023, and earned a Gold Glove at first base that year.

The Stars beat the Striples 47-21 in the NBA All-Star Game championship in Los Angeles Sunday evening. Indiana Pacers forward Pascal Siakam scored a combined 10 points on five of seven shooting in two 12-minute games in the new All-Star Game tournament. But Siakam’s  squad lost both – 48-45 to the Stripes and 37-35 to the Stars – and was eliminated before the championship.

Number 8 Illinois routed Indiana 71-51 in college basketball Sunday in Champaign. Indiana was led in scoring by Lamar Wilkerson with 21 points and Tucker DeVries who had 13. Sam Alexis finished with 11 points and eight rebounds for the Hoosiers, who fall to 17-9 overall and 8-7 in the Big Ten.
