Class 3A #7 Batesville hammered Rushville 73-35 in high school basketball heard last night on the Sports Voice. The Bulldogs set a new single-game school record by hitting 17 three-pointers on the night. Batesville’s James Hughes tossed in a game-high 20 points. Teammate Brayden Maple added 13 and Kamryn Holcomb chipped in 11. Zy Adams scored 15 points to lead the Lions. With the win, Batesville improves to 17-2 overall and clinches at least a share of the EIAC championship with a 6-0 mark…

Elsewhere, East Central topped Connersville 53-46 in St. Leon. Liam Rogers led the Trojans with 14 points while Aiden Hallahan added 12 and Cole Reynolds chimed in with 11. East Central improves to 4-1 in the EIAC and 8-11 overall. EC and Batesville meet up at the Dawg Pound tomorrow afternoon. Phil Castellini has been approved by Major League Baseball as the new Majority Owner and CEO of the Cincinnati Reds. He succeeds his father Bob, who held the position since buying the team 20 years ago.

The Indiana Pacers have been fined $100,000 by the NBA. Commissioner Adam Silver said the Pacers violated the player participation policy on February 3. An investigation concluded that Pascal Siakam sat out that game against the Utah Jazz despite being medically cleared to play. Indiana lost that night, 131-122.

In college basketball on Thursday, IU-Indy lost to Northern Kentucky 84-81; Evansville was crushed by Southern Illinois 86-60; Indiana State was edged by Murray State 74-72; Purdue-Fort Wayne went down against Green Bay 76-59, and Valparaiso fell to Illinois State 86-64.

The #13 Purdue Boilermakers are in Iowa City tomorrow to square off with the unranked Iowa Hawkeyes. Purdue coach Matt Painter says Iowa will be a tough opponent, and adds the Boilers are in a weird spot where they welcome tough opponents, but need to be mindful that they are on thin ice for a Big Ten title. They sit two-and-a-half games behind Michigan in the Big Ten standings.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are desperate for a win. They have lost 10 of their last 11 games, but have a good chance to snap out of their recent struggles against Georgia Tech tomorrow. The Yellow Jackets sit 11-14 on the season.
