(Greensburg, IN) – Kevin Gay has announced his candidacy for Decatur County Council District 4, citing a lifelong commitment to service, fiscal responsibility, and transparent local government.
Gay was born and raised in Decatur County and has spent the majority of his life in the community. He and his wife of 29 years, Angela, currently live on five acres in St. Paul, a community that spans Decatur and Shelby counties.
“This is home,” Gay said. “I’m running to give back to the community that shaped me and to ensure the people of Decatur County have a real choice in who represents them.”
He is a six-year veteran of the Indiana National Guard, where he served as an air traffic control tower operator in the Aviation Wing and received an honorable discharge.
“The Guard taught me discipline, clear communication, and teamwork under pressure,” Gay said. “Those skills are directly applicable to responsible budgeting, effective oversight, and collaborative decision-making on the County Council.”
Gay has more than 45 years of professional experience in the manufacturing industry, including leadership and management roles. He currently serves as a Production Analyst at Knauf Insulation, where data-driven decision-making, attention to detail, and continuous improvement are daily priorities. Throughout his career, Gay has worked alongside operators, engineers, and executives to improve processes, steward resources responsibly, and deliver measurable results.
Community involvement has been a consistent part of Gay’s life. For 16 years, he volunteered as Treasurer for the North Decatur High School Music Parents organization and regularly worked the home game concession stand. He also assisted with building props and equipment, traveled with the band to competitions, and provided hands-on support to students and directors.
Gay is a graduate of North Decatur Jr.–Sr. High School and holds a Bachelor of Science in Management from Indiana Wesleyan University. He and Angela raised four children, all
graduates of North Decatur Jr.–Sr. High School, and are proud grandparents to six grandchildren.
Outside of work and public service, Gay enjoys beekeeping, woodworking, and working outdoors on his property. He and his wife are also involved in efforts to spay and neuter community cats, reflecting their belief in practical, humane stewardship.
If elected, Gay said his priorities will include fiscal responsibility and transparent budgeting, safe roads and reliable infrastructure, strong support for public safety, and policies that help agriculture, small businesses, and local employers thrive.
“I will listen respectfully, ask hard questions, and work toward solutions that reflect our community’s priorities,” Gay said.
