(Friendship, IN) – The Friendship Volunteer Fire Department conducted a successful ice rescue this week.
A dog that wandered onto an icy pond around 2 p.m. Tuesday, fell in and couldn’t pull itself out.
Firefighters donned ice-resistant suits, deployed the department’s inflatable rescue boat and quickly rescued the dog.
Neither the animal nor its rescuers were injured.
Ripley County EMS assisted at the scene.
“As we go through this thawing, please be diligent with your pets, children and yourself,” reads a statement from the fire department. “This turned out to be a happy ending. They all aren’t. Be safe out there.”
This is the third icy water rescue to take place in Southeastern Indiana this year, and the second involving a dog.
Greensburg firefighters rescued a driver whose vehicle slid into a pond at the intersection of Moscow Road and 7th on January 26 following that weekend’s massive snowfall.
Morris volunteer firefighters rescued a dog from the pond at Indian Lakes Campground on January 29.
