(Indianapolis, IN) – Sergeant Kyle Hartman, plus Deputies Arin Bowers and Tyler Ford with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office were presented Officer of the Year Awards by the Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council (IPAC) at the organization’s Winter Conference on Monday, December 8 in Indianapolis.
The trio was nominated by Franklin County Prosecutor Christopher Huerkamp in recognition of their actions during the Cameron Gregory Guilfoyle incident in December of 2022.
Guilfoyle was found guilty but mentally ill in the shooting and wounding of his wife Hannah and Deputy Bowers.
Special Judge Brian Hill of Rush County sentenced Guilfoyle back in May to a total of 100 years in prison.
Hannah was seriously injured but survived.
Guilfoyle was paralyzed in the shootout with Deputy Bowers at State Road 1 and U.S. 52 near Cedar Grove.
Deputy Bowers was struck in his protective vest and was not seriously hurt.
“Sergeant Hartman, Deputy Bowers, and Deputy Ford demonstrated quick, decisive, and courageous action in a rapidly evolving and dangerous situation,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a statement. “Their actions directly stopped a threat and saved the lives of both a small child and Hanna Guilfoyle.”
Deputy Bowers was also selected as the 2025 Indiana FOP Officer of the Year, and all three deputies have received the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Medal of Valor.
The sheriff’s office thanked Huerkamp and IPAC for the prestigious recognition and for honoring the deputies outstanding service.
